April 27 to April 28, 2019
If you have ever wanted to craft a story or memoir but abandoned your dream when facing a blank page, this is the workshop for you. Flash is a writing discipline that is characterized by brevity, precision of word choices, and a direct narrative thread. It can be applied to fiction or creative nonfiction. Using the techniques of flash fiction and flash memoir, participants will be able to produce a finished, edited piece at the end of class. Writing, critiquing, editing, and pursuing publication will also be covered. By the end of class, participants will feel confident enough that the blank page will no longer be the enemy. This workshop is suitable for mature ages 15-17 and adults. Students should bring a notebook and pen or a laptop computer.
Debi Orton founded and published the online literary journal flashquake and moderated the online workshop FlashMemoirs.
