Riding a sled along the many hundreds miles of trails here in the Okemo Valley is one of the great pleasures of winter in Vermont. Across the state the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers along with 140+ local clubs have created and continually maintained thousands of miles of trails on private and public lands for the enjoyment of residents and non residents. Sled owners from throughout the Northeast enjoy the well signed and maintained trail network. You and your sled are welcome to join in this activity.
First you need to take the following actions to prepare. (Required in the state of Vermont)
- Your sled must be registered and you must have proof of the registration
- You must have proof of personal injury and liability insurance.
- You must join a local club.
- You must display a 2008-2009 Trails Maintenance Assessment(TMA) decal which allows you to snowmobile on signed and groomed VAST trails. Ninety percent of the cost goes to maintain and improve the trails. Failure to display a TMA while riding on VAST trails is considered to be trespassing.
- You should obtain 2008-2009 VAST trail map which contains GPS coordinates.
Clubs and locations where a TMA can be obtained in the Okemo Valley are listed bellow.
As you explore our extensive trail network in the Okemo Valley, please remember the land you are riding on is privately owned. Trails are clearly marked, going off the trail can result in a land owner not allowing future use of their land for snowmobiling.
Many Vermont landowners are hunters or allow hunting on their land, and as a gesture of goodwill, we ask that trail riding does not occur until the hunting season is over (generally after 15th of Dec). Most trails are closed on or around April 1st or 15th depending on snow coverage.
