Timothy R. Ford Named CEO of Springfield Medical Care Systems
SPRINGFIELD, VT – Springfield Medical Care Systems’ (SMCS) Board of Directors has named Timothy R. Ford President and Chief Executive Officer of SMCS and Springfield Hospital effective November 4th.
Ford will oversee all clinical and fiscal operations of SMCS, including the community health center network and the critical access hospital.
Mr. Ford comes to SMCS from Blowing Rock, NC, where he held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Blowing Rock Hospital, and Senior Vice President of Corporate Services for Appalachian Regional Healthcare System, Inc., in Boone, NC, which includes Appalachian Regional Medical Associates, Blowing Rock Hospital, Watauga Medical Center, and Cannon Memorial Hospital.
“On behalf of the board of directors, I am pleased Tim is joining us to continue the great work SMCS has accomplished,” said Steve Birge, Chairman of the Board of SMCS. “Tim’s combined experience, leadership skills, and broad understanding of the healthcare industry stood out among several excellent candidates,” continued Birge. “I am confident our healthcare system and our community will benefit from his leadership as we navigate the changing healthcare environment.”
Mr. Ford has extensive experience in healthcare administration, strategic planning, regulation, clinical operations, physician relations, finance, and facilities management. He has served as Adjunct Associate Professor at Appalachian State University, Walker College of Business, and the College of Health Sciences for over 20 years.
Prior to his work at Blowing Rock Hospital, Mr. Ford was Sr. Vice President of Operations at Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC, and Healthcare Analyst for the State of North Carolina.

Mr. Ford earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of Arizona, in Tucson, AZ. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Public Health. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a professional member of the American Diabetes Association.
